Chy Carne

Sadly waved goodbye to Freathy on Friday and left our base at the Fort 10;45AM on the road to destination 2; Chy Carne down near The Lizard. Towing along the narrow cliff road and getting onto the main roads was challenging but were soon on the open road to Bodmin.

The new owners at the Fort are really smartening up the place, since we were last there in 2020 there are many improvements; The caved-in swimming pool is lovingly restored and almost ready for occupation, a smart tarmac service road has been laid to service the Moat lower level touring site, there is much work going on with new lodges. The bar and restaurant boasts a good menu and the food, drink and service is very good.

Even on the Thursday (2nd June-the Jubilee bank holiday) Mark and his team laid a new

and spectacular patio area, adding more outdoor seating and generally making more improvements.

Our directions (last bit was 'don't follow your Sat Nav)! were perfect. We towed down the A30-there are excellent services half way at Cornwall Services, but we ploughed on making for Helson, from where we had incoming and explicit directions to Chy Carne.

As it was we turned off for Redruth and came across country, over the hills and beautiful Cornish hedged B-roads, which was delightful. Our typed directions bought us all the way down to Kuggar, next to Kennack Sands and all the way in stunning sunshine!

We knew this site would be a little different from the Fort when we saw Fire pits, logs and kindling outside the club shop!
