Well that week at Chy Carne did feel like two. Having spent 8 days there, we fell in love with the area, so rustic as it is, crowned on the last night by a trip to the nearby fishing village of Cadgwith. Here you can walk on the way to the Lizard, we went in by a meandering path through hills and woods.
It is a tiny village but is stunning in it's authenticity, there is a tiny, pre-fabricated little blue church, perched on the hill overlooking the village, a crab shop, cafe and pub The Cadgwith Cove, which has real ales, great food and rooms.
Many thatched, whitewashed houses, adorned with multitudes of flowers nestle on it's hilly roads, with many footpaths criss-crossing in and out.
And there is no harbour, just a dozen or so colourful fishing boats, heaved up on it's delightfully cobbled beach.
All pretty beautiful, we are so glad we got there and sad not to have been before, but we'll be back!
Talking of going back, the next morning we said our goodbyes to the amazing beach of Kennack Sands. What a beautiful place, what a way to start your morning, strolling along with the dogs as the sun glistens on the cascading water and the white-topped, foamy waves. Virtually deserted, we have to come back here and got a bit emotional waving goodbye!
So this area, unbeknown to us before we came is a stunning and beautifully preserved natural countryside with sparkling sea and sun, friendly campers and walkers of all nationalities, and, although it took us time to appreciate it, which now has a place in our hearts.
The campsite at Chy Carne was adequate and well looked after, clean, just a bit quiet (and as stated before) therefore many of the facilities were not open.
What we loved was the open space and that the dogs could loll about without leads, the calm, the view over the Sands and the wi-fi, which was stunningly amazing and free (which does make such a difference)! I would highly recommend this site if you want to explore this wonderful area of South Cornwall.
So with heavy heart, we packed up and pulled out on our way to the next venue, Monkey
Tree, just over an hour away up on the northern Cornish coastline, ten minutes from Perranporth and with St Agnes to the South and Newquay to the North.
Lyn's favourite area.
Let's see what this is like?
