Recommended to visit The Smugglers Den, Cubert, for food and so yesterday (still really hot) and after watching and realising a reasonable cash return from Ascot on the telly! (ITV7 ended up with two winners and two places only)!
Simply looked at the map for anything near Cubert, which is really close by here, and found what looked like a reasonable beach at Holywell Bay.
Wow! What a stunning place, rocks massive sand dunes, crashing waves and a vicious tide firing back up the pretty river! Yellow dunes, blue skies and a white foaming sea make it one pf the prettiest places we have seen!
The dogs loved it of course, bit of paddling for Joe and full on wild swimming for Molls.
The Smugglers Den is an astonishing, sprawling 'Olde Worlde' building, really popular and busy, with a fabulous Beer Garden and Marquee in the grounds. We sat outside overlooking a field full of feeding sheep and stunning views over the downs and the dunes.
As everywhere these days, and by their own admission, these guys are really short staffed, but they did their best, and we were in no hurry, so a thoroughly acceptable evening.
Will be back at Holywell before we leave here on Saturday. It is nine minutes drive away so also really close!
