...and scorching weather...
Plus there are several great beaches around the bay. Just around the bay from the Woolacombe main beach, there are some little rocky coves including Barricane Beach and Combesgate, on the old windy road that leads up to the pretty village of Mortehoe.
We now have the three dogs so the heat of the day means we revert to early and late beach walks, and last night we (on the advice of the adventure golf man, thank you), drove up to Barricane which was quite busy and delightful. An easy walk down path and steps, and huddled at the bottom of the rocks, right on the beach, you will find a smashing little cafe, licenced, and selling (your usual cafe fare, including cream teas)-Sri-Lankan street food-so you can have a cheeky little curry on the beach!!
Great little beach with sheer rocks, crashing waves and beautiful rock and sand pools, in which we frolicked to the dogs great delight.
Bit disappointed with the drive up to Mortehoe though. A tricky drive up a narrow lane and when we eventually got there, a lovely pub at the top but very tricky parking.
The Woolacombe Sands site continues to impress, the two pools (indoor and out) are brilliant for a quick dip, right by the clubhouse and supermarket, a great place to have a drink with a view!
The site has good toilets, showers and facilities, clean and efficient. The pitches all have these wonderfully situated sea-views and most of these are very sunnily situated.
Wi-Fi is free, easy and reliable, and all in all it's got everything.
Back off to Barricane now with some Cider and to get a curry.
Then off to the delightful and recommended Putsborough on the way to Croyde either tomorrow or Thursday.
Lucky we bought the sun-cream!
