Worth the trip down and up tight and winding Devon roads, Putsborough is actually on the same sands as Woolacombe. A stretch of sands over 3 miles long, next door to Croyde.
It is a pretty trip but there is lots of giving way, reversing and passing on those tricky roads but only a 20-minute trip.
We had been looking (seen the pictures) for the little caravan site that clings to the rocks above the beach, which is spectacular and has the most stunning views with the sprawling beach stretching out below and distant views to Woolacombe.
There is a very tidy cafe, very efficiently run and stocking everything from dog-treats and postcards to surfboards, Coffee, Breakfast baps and up to Fresh Crab salad at lunchtime.
You can park there, but like a few places around here, at a charge of £9.00 per day (no concessions). Yes you can leave the site and return the same day, but the site is so remote this would never happen.
Dogs ok on the right side of the beach, and worth the trip into Croyde where there are several pubs, restaurants and eateries in a splendid village setting.
Dickhead of the day also left his phone under a bench on the green at Croyde. Thanks so much to the gentleman tourist that picked it up, answered my call and handed the phone in to the the lovely Blue Groove, from where I picked it up intact later! Thank you!!
Still sunny, changeable later, let's see what today, our 43rd Anniversary brings!
