Site Review

Riverview Touring Park-Pontarddulais.

Right! Getting my finger out and starting my site reviews. Inspired by our Caravanning mates Caroline and Ken, who are at Riverview as I write with dogs Olive and Maisie.

We went there this time last year, wanting to visit Wales, particularly the Mumbles, the Gower and the Brecon Beacons. And what a perfectly situated site this is for all three and South Wales.

Also (with a view to assisting Caravanning newbies), what a wonderfully easy place to get to. If you have easy access to the M4, here are the directions.

1)Turn onto the M4 anywhere from London westwards.

2) Keep going straight

3) When the M4 ends north of Swansea, turn right.

4) Drive up that road for nearly a mile.

5) Arrive at Riverview!

It's that simple. There are no windy roads that weave through forests, no one-lane B roads or tracks and nowhere that you can go wrong. This takes all the stress out of the drive and takes you from A to B in great time and order so that you can concentrate on immediately getting on with your holiday and enjoying yourselves. Crack open a San Miguel!

This is a picturesque site on three levels, the lower of which includes lovely river pitches overlooking a rambling river that meanders bubbling through woodland. It is peaceful and pretty, there is a well-stocked shop on this level, close by to little woodland walks up and around the river and the woods. The site is well laid out and felt pretty roomy all round with good services. This is an award-winning, 5 Star site, well maintained and with an environmental policy and recycling on site.

Lyn had requested us to be slightly "away" so the dogs were not always out or being startled by passing dogs (as they do) ref; World War Three! So we were pitched up on the top level, which was quiet, out of the way, backed by trees and overlooking a sort of green that filled up with good-natured local campers from Friday night to Sunday morning.

The bonus to this serviced, hard-standing pitch, with all it's space and freedom is that it was less than 200 yards to the outdoor bar! Also was in the adults only area! The Euro's were on last year and Rob and team had employed a giant screen beside the bar to watch the football, the prices were really economic and so well worth using every night!

The staff were really helpful, lending us an electric lead when ours played up and assisting and chatting in the shop or the bar or the site in general.

This is truly one of my top three favourite sites, laid back, friendly, pretty, reasonable and well situated for exploring. We had a great time down at Riverview and of course we'll be going back. It is quite rural, but has a great ambience about it, is great for the dogs and for walking, but close to Swansea and all the other places that I mentioned previously. There is nothing imminently close by but a breakfast and food bar on the main road by the site, some pubs and towns all within easy driving distance.
